Miriam Bäckström
Born in 1967 in Sweden
Lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden       CV
--------------------------------------------
Miriam Bäckström has previously primarily worked with photography. In her latest work she started to use film as a medium. One thing that her photographs have in common is that they all lack people. In this way the photographs emphasises what is normally seen as backgrounds, such as film sets, flats turned into museum and estates of dead people. What is portrayed has the function to stage or represent reality, something that Bäckström makes visible and is interested in.

In the film Rebecka, 2004, Miriam Bäckström goes further and explores the staging of identity. Central questions deal with the construction of identity, the extent to which one can assume a role and play the part of someone else. In cooperation with the actor Rebecka Hemse, Bäkström examines questions about the art of the actor, in which truthfulness is essential in the creation.
